Praising the Lamb of God

January 20th, 2004

There may be no greater gift we can give to God the Father than to lift up His Son to Him in praise and worship as “sweet incense to Him of our love.”

Revelations 5:1-14 really brings this home, especially verses 11-14, as was revealed to John:

Then I looked, and heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshipped.

Awesome! Awesome! What awesome words! All praise and honor and glory to the Lamb of God!

A Charles Stanley devotional asks: What was it about Jesus that motivated such heartfelt worship? It was who He is, what He has done, and what He will do. He is………

God the Son who laid aside His divinity in order that He might rescue us. Philippians 2:6-7 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

The Savior who took on human form and died so that we might be saved. Philippians 2:8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

The only One who revealed God the Father to us. John 14:9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Phillip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?

Also, Hebrews 1:1-4 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through who also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

The Son of Man who chose to identify with us because of His great love.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.

The Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world. John 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!”

The Lion of Judah who will return as the judge, the ruler, and the authority over all. Revelation 5:5 and one of the elders said to me, “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”

Why all this? So God the Father could provide redemption for His creation. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

Now? Jesus, is our High Priest. Hebrews 4:14-16 For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (And you may want to also read Hebrews 2:17,18 in reference to this.)

And then, may we join in this worship of Jesus Christ, our Savior, and our Lord: “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying, “To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

May the Lord bless and keep you, and as in Revelations 22: 12-14 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.” Blessed are those who wash their robes, so they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.

Are you “washed in the blood of the Lamb?”

In Him, a trophy of His merciful grace,
